This week we welcomed Temora Shire Council's Engineering Asset Manager, Rob Fisher, to our meeting. Rob spoke to members about his history growing up in the Temora region prior to moving to Menindee where his parents ran the pub before returning to Temora.Rob also discussed the main works being undertaken across Temora including the Howards Road bridge replacement, drainage works near Melaleuca Street north of the Burley Griffin Way and the sealing of urban fringe roads such as Wattle and Narraburra streets.He also spoke about the Hoskin Street upgrades including the four-week upgrade of the middle blocks, from Victoria to Polaris streets, that will commence on 5 January. It was a rewarding day for the Temora Rotary team, helping 17 St Anne's Catholic College, Temora and four Ariah Park Central school students develop the skills and confidence to face the often overwhelming first job interview experience by conducting mock interviews. Last night, members of Rotary Temora and guests visited local business, Smiths BBQs, manufacturer of lightweight, portable BBQs for the caravan, RV motorhome and camper trailer markets.Owner John Smith spoke about his life’s journey and we toured the factory to learn about the intricacies of BBQ building and the niche market John has tapped into. If so, these are just some of the symptoms of sleep apnoea.This week we welcomed Emily Watts from Temora’s Capital Chemist to our Rotary meeting who spoke about the causes, symptoms and treatment for sleep apnoea. Our very own Jane Howard was our speaker last Monday night. New members give a ‘Behind the badge’ talk introducing themselves and their areas of expertise and interest. Jane has an interesting and varied skill set in Business & Communication having worked for newspapers, marketing groups, government and with universities. Need some $$$ to support your post-high school study and career ambitions?The Rotary-supported Temora and District Education Fund (TDEF) is calling for 2025 grant applications from Temora youth aged 16-25 years.The program reimburses successful applicants for costs such as course fees, textbooks, tools, accommodation, travel and workwear.One of our 2024 Rotary grant recipients and second-year CSU Bachelor of Education student, Katie Holmes (pictured) said the grant was invaluable in covering costs to progress her degree.“During assessment time my laptop crashed.
